One morning, I was walking by the river
When I heard someone calling out my name
I turned around, and saw the strangest woman
And yet she seemed to know me just the same

She gazed at me while saying nothing
I looked back, but I had no words to say
She headed on towards where folks go swimming
Glancing back as she made down her way

I followed like a drinking man to whisky
And joined her at the grassy river's edge

She stripped and plunged into that cool, clear watеr
Came up for air, and finally, she said
"If you jump in, I'll tell you now, it's risky
For first, you must in еarnest make this pledge
That you won't see in me your immortality
If not, you'd best stay dry out on that ledge"

I didn't understand at all her meaning
But I dove into that water cool and clear
She looked at me, so sorry, full of feeling
As I came up and swam to be more near

She said goodbye, and then a current grabbed me
It sucked me in and pulled me down and down
I could see her up above, and she was waving
Waving as she watched me as I drowned

One morning, I was walking by the river
When I heard someone calling out my name
I turned around and saw the strangest woman
But she seemed to know me just the same

Yeah, she seemed to know me just the same
