Old man, Napi came from the South
Moving North, as he made the mountain
Crossed the rivers, for he made them too
The old man God
Old Man, Napi stumbled ‘cross hills
No heaven and there was no hell
All alone, made a place called home
The old man God
Old man, Napi moved right on
Created woman and he gave her a son
Named them people and he named himself too
Said, “Arise and walk!”
People learned how to hunt for their meat
Old man gave them buffalo to eat
Taught them how to listen to their dreams
For their own Spirit Power
Their mighty Spirit Power!
Old man kept on traveling North
His creatures followed as he carried on forth
Didn’t stop but he created more
The old man God
Blew breath on them and there they stood
Showed ‘em how to hunt for their food
Old man taught them how to kill
“Rise up!” The old man shouted
Stopped & gazed at the slope down below
He disappeared, to where, no one knows
Then he said, “One day, I will return”
The old man promised
Old man, he can never die
I keep my eyes wide open for signs
That he’ll return with guidance for us
To find our Spirit Power
Oh mighty Spirit Power!
Where are you Spirit Power?
I keep looking for answers, try to listen to my dreams
But all I find are the sounds of my screams
I keep on floating down, even further away
Been trying to find the right words, but there ain't nothing to say
I feel myself getting lost at the edge
People torn and broken as they try to resist
No one to blame but ourselves and hate the other side
If I care too much for my kin, I think I’ll lose my mind
O’ Medicine Man, won’t you heal us?
Spirit Power, please come to our dreams
Save us from ourselves before we are dust
Before we burst at the seems
I’m waiting for you to fly down from the top of the sky
A big black bird, with the feathers of your wings shining blue in the sun
And I, the child, with my eyes wide open in awe
Climb onto your back, and with the strength of your wings
You lift me back up
With the strength of your wings
You lift me up
With the strength of your wings
You lift us up!
Please, lift us up
Moving North, as he made the mountain
Crossed the rivers, for he made them too
The old man God
Old Man, Napi stumbled ‘cross hills
No heaven and there was no hell
All alone, made a place called home
