Yeah man
Only people from the hood can relate to this
But then again, maybe it’s going on everywhere
Let’s talk about it
[Verse]
Hey, I pulled up to the gas station
It’s a rat race when cats is talking fast, but I mastered that translation
I’m weaving through a scene like ten or more
One of ‘em wouldn’t take no for an answer
He quickly followed me in the store
He saw me pulling out a chunk of money
Said I wanted twenty on number five
That’s when he asked if he could pump it for me
Knew it was bread he was concerned with
Started to tell him no but then I thought to myself, ‘well, at least he’s tryna earn it’
I gave him a permit
And before I put the car in drive, I handed him a dollar
He got mad and said he charges five
I said, “boy, you high and crazy, hope that ain’t your best line”
He took the dollar, walked away and said, “just get me next time”
I had to leave this dude in limbo
Just when I started to pull off, it was another cat politely tapping on my window
I let it down so I could hear his speech
He said he needed two dollars for gas, his car had stopped on him right down the street
Didn’t want to come off like I’m hating
He said he was with his family
I said where they at? He said they in the car just waiting
I said, “your story just don’t even out
If you knew your needle was that close to ‘E’ and you was broke, why leave the house?”
Matter of fact, unless my mind is slow
The more that I think back
I heard this line at least eleven different times before
“And what you said all the rest would say
Hold up, man, I live around the way
I saw you standing out here yesterday”
I waved him off and made a violent sound
After riding ‘round a while, I stopped at a store on the other side of town
While tryna park, I almost hit this dude
He dropped the old classic line on me, “Can I get some change? I’m tryna get some food”
Was hard to process what he talking ‘bout
‘cause he was laying on the ground, 99 degree heat like he on his couch
I said, “I can’t give you no money, chief, but meet me across the street
We can go to Denny’s, I’ll just grab you something to eat”
He said, “I don’t want to offend you, I’m allergic to Denny’s”
“How the hell you allergic to the whole menu?”
At that moment I detected deception
Since he couldn’t answer the question
I started stepping in the opposite direction
But y’all shoulda seen this next one
He came up to me flexing ‘cause I guess he knew he had his game down to perfection
He said he would perform for some green
He did three freestyles and the whole Billy Jean routine
When he was finished a couple of dollars he requested
I went on to bless him ‘cause that moonwalk was impressive
Later on the same night, G, this cat caught me at the store in Third Ward buying a white tee
Reached in a bag and said, "please just listen"
Then he tried to sell me a pack of lunch meat half open with two pieces missing
I said, “bro, I ain’t got time for y’all
All I got for you today is knowledge, take this copy of the final call”
Now I don’t mind helping those in need
But I ain’t giving a dime to a beggar out here wearing better clothes than me
Able-bodied grown men and women roaching
But I know when I come back tomorrow more gon’ be approaching so I
