Max:
Ever since my freshman year
I’ve had a quiet place that I can go
I hide there every day before the bell
And even when I’m somewhere else
I close my eyes, and I’m there
It started when I sat in that chair
And listened to my friend play piano
And I could hear two other people playing just nearby
And now I take that trio everywhеre
And i'll start dancing in my mind
My mom is out of town and for the first time in a month, my dad slеpt in their bed
I heard him hit the snooze three times when I got up this morning
So I guess their mattress doesn’t hurt his back like he said
I feel like I’m not supposed to know, but I can see the warning signs
I wonder who will get the house
I picture them without a spouse
Whoa
That’s farther than I meant to go
So I'll just keep on dancing in the corners of my mind
Listening to three different tunes as one
I keep on searching everywhere for what I have to find
And I’m feeling that my life has just begun
Whenever I’m at home, it’s like we play a trio, but we’ve got different scores
The rhythms don’t line up at all, it isn’t hard to see why
And I’m scared to hear this cadence that we’re heading towards
I try for a steady beat, but we’re all in different times
I try to make it all make sense
I don’t know where this family went
No
Just think about my pianos
So I'll just keep on dancing in the corners of my mind
I’m not in charge of anything they do
I picture my piano and I see the silver lining
I just wish they saw the silver lining, too
My mom is strong
She’s there for everyone until the end
My dad shines
Every stranger wants to be his friend
I have her strength
And I, I have his light
So I’ll just keep on dancing in the corners of my mind
Holding them both inside of me
I hear their songs together and I let them flow with mine
It’s okay that their songs weren’t meant to be
But I can hear the tune pounding in my veins
The one arising from our songs intertwined
They might not love each other, but our trio still remains
And I’ll keep dancing in my mind
Ever since my freshman year
I’ve had a quiet place that I can go
I hide there every day before the bell
And even when I’m somewhere else
