Maybe I really oughta learn my place
But old habits die hard, I pull up a chair and sit there anyways
Maybe you don’t get what I’m going after
So here, let me educate you on this matter
___

I’m getting real tired of your “fatherly advice”
Because you’re not half the man that my Heavenly Father is
Yeah, I’ve seen what you do when you sin
You just run and hide like Adam & Eve did

Oh, I understand it’s your job to preach
But you speak to me as if I’m a bug beneath your feet
You’re a coward, even if you don’t see it
It’s easy to preach what everybody else agrees with

As soon as trouble comes you hide behind God’s mercy seat
Your two faced pride reminds me that of the Pharisees
Because you sit so high on your throne of authority
But you don’t carry the weight of the responsibility
Of these sheep that follow and trust you whole-heartedly
You dance around topics with your social media politics
While people get chained to hate and sin
You play pretend, like you don’t care about the end

And reckless in regard to consequences
Heaven or Hell but you’d rather be selfish
So take my opinion and place it on your shelf then
With all other convictions you deemed irrelevant

One day you’ll find yourself broke
Because you valued reputation more than relationship
But I’m waiting in hope you’ll grow ears to listen
___

Do you expect me to act like it’s okay?
After you talked circles behind my back
To come over in expectance of a handshake?
In pure ignorance to the pain that you caused me

Every time I hear your tongue, I swear I hear the hissing of a snake
The kingdom you’ve built is not built of faith
So when the walls of our church begin to crumble down
Will you be innocent or one to blame?

The audacity to bash the children formed of your silence
Oh, when you saw belief in lies you kept quiet
Teaching stumped by the fear of ceasing praise of men
Playing tricks, stories sewn together with manipulation
Plotting death just like Haman
So you’re gonna fall prey to your own game
Know this, when Jesus first preached He said:
“Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand!”

Because you’re too busy protecting your position
To notice you’re standing on the shoulders of those you deemed worthless
Seemingly blind to see there’s division

A tear in the pulpit all the way down to the back of the pews
A plant breaking up the foundation and I’m looking at the roots:
It all comes down to you knowing right and wrong
But being too scared to speak the truth
___

You can cut the theatrics, I’m going off script
If the modern church was a play it’d be a tragedy
But there’s nothing romantic about hopelessness
Oh, there is something beautiful about redemption

The way light breaks through into a gloriful contrast
And you made me believe I should hide it under a bushel basket
I don’t intend to blend in with the darkness
I’m sorry that I don’t fit your expectations

But I would never want to fit in with corruption
Or your status sorted cliques
Not using God’s word as a weapon might as well take the bible and burn it
It’s better than pretending
You will be held accountable for your mistakes
But now it’s your decision to make
Will you serve the world or the King?
I’ll make sure you never forget His yoke is a blessing
If there is one thing I never doubt, it’s God’s anointing
___

Because I don’t want your sympathy
I’ve been doing just fine without an apology
But what I really want is for you to be the leader God created you to be
