[poem]
Does the bird take the view for granted
Does it ever look down in amazement or pity
At the land we rule and say
“Maybe they ain’t got it like they used to”
Or “I hope they know that land is forever rented
Never owned because when they leave
It will be someone else’s turn to rent this thing we call land
Air
Life
Believing you own it only makes it sadder when it’s time to leave see
Life is borrowed
And I know cuz I’ve seen God lend
And I’ve fasho seen Him collect
You see the bird has the luxury of viewing us top down
But also
From the ground up
Seeing our highs and lows It builds a more holistic opinion of the human
Maybe it’s more than a bird
An Angel in animal form
That reports back to God our progress
Or lack thereof
Maybe the bird is a metaphor
Or maybe
Just maybe
It’s just a bird
[song]
If you only had an hour to fly
Would you take it
If you had to beat the streetlight home would you make it
If you saw a money trail to the bank would you chase it
If you promised you would come back alive would you break it
See most questions are rhetorical not made for answers
People making money in treatments so they won’t cure cancer
Million dollar question is how to get there faster
Artists slaves to the money don’t control they masters
A disaster mother nature can’t believe the chatter
Of people with the same atoms claiming lives don’t matter
Cuz skin is darker never knew melanin was sin
Does that explain the punishment and all the pain we in
Or why as kids we dress as Superman and dream to fly
As adults we take as many trips before we die
As we can so we work setting days aside
And we plan to save until we can retire
Uncle Sam’s greatest stunt he’s ever set up
Stepping on each other’s back to get a leg up
Talked to God and I could tell that He was fed up
People starving we worried bout getting our bread up
And being fly as the birds we give our bread to
Hearing this shit feel like yo parents just misled you
But you can’t blame them they just do what grandma said do
And you can’t question words from mouths that done fed you
No independence of the mind and so that means
Unlearning all the lies we’re taught should be its own degree
Renewing hope every Sunday but still end up weak
I just I Hope I learn to fly before I get my wings
Before the choir sings
(Sing that shit)
If you ever had an hour to fly
Would you take it
If you had to beat the streetlight home would you make it
If you saw a money trail to the bank
Would you chase it
If you promised you would come back alive
Would you break it
(Will you make it)
Does the bird take the view for granted
Does it ever look down in amazement or pity
