Mesmerized
By the beauty
Of your inner song
I see you
I know you
I am you
My love song
To you
To us
A toast to the
Depth of our emotions
To the clarity
Of our minds
To the enormity
Of what we
Can contribute
To this world
I hear the clarion
The call to arms
It’s time for us
To lend some assistance
In this God-awful predicament
That American citizens
Now find themselves in
Laser focus
Gotta make sure
We lasso the moon
From beginning to end
From left to right
From right to left
Cover all the bases
Money is not thе key
Knocking on doors
Taking seats at our
Neighbors’ tablеs
Sharing cups of coffee
Eating Girl Scout S’mores
With those we care about
Listening to their concerns
Learning what is preventing
Greater participation
In protesting
Our dwindling rights
Why some have given up
Even before the real fight
Brilliance and goodness
A formidable force
In the battle about to unfold
Intertwined valentines
That’s what we are
Because if we fall
We will fall as one
No doubt about that
A formal call to arms
A formal call to rise up
Time to show some chutzpah
In dignified, ingenious and
Non-violent ways
Need brilliant strategies
To combat the multi-pronged efforts
To dismantle our democracy
They want to take us back to a time
When prejudice raged supreme
We now face a
Threat so striking
It’s truly frightening
No more living in
A state of denial
The precarious
State of our well-being
Need to shake people up
Until they say WTF
Recite some cold hard
Truths about the
State of our “union”
Plaster it all over
The running boards
A civil war
About to erupt
And those with
Nightblinders still
Can’t see how
The elephant is
About to pull the rug out
Right from under us
In our peaceful bed
As we sleep in
A state of denial
Mom and Dad
Just don’t want to
Believe that their
Very existence
Is on the line
Enough said
No more equivocation
No more prevarication
Freight train has
Already left the station
This is real
This is real
This is real
We are in peril
Like we’ve never been before
Shut the door
Close the window
These strategies simply
Won’t work anymore
Rise up!
Rise up!
Time to hit the streets
Form an army of protesters
Voice your concern
About the growing
Threat of fascism
The ugly beast that
Has swallowed up
The Republican Party
How did this happen?
How did they assume
The majority so quickly?
All I know is
That the battle
Has has already occurred
AND WE LOST!
My heart breaks
The state of their disgrace
Appalling!
They were once a former
Respected partner
With lofty ideas
Goals and values
Actually had a platform
Which has since been
Blown to smithereens
By a despicable
Little orange man
Who used to be a joke
Now who’s wearing the yoke?
Who’s laughing now?
I cry for who and what
They have become
Have already taken over
The majority of
The Republican Party
Only a few honorable
Women and men left
To carry the torch
Of a party that
Has been scorched
By the deadly push and pull
Of the curse of facism
How did this happen?
Right before our eyes
Poof!
And our democracy
Is nothing but
A puddle on the floor
What can we do?
Regroup!
Listen to
The best and brightest minds
They will know the answer
There is still hope
There is power in numbers
One of the greatest
Motivators
To those heroes
Amongst us
Is the greater good
Use the eagle’s mighty claws
To take back
The night
To reignite the fight
For freedom
A bright future awaits us
But only if we T R U L Y
Fight for our lives
And only if we begin now
B O O M !
By the beauty
Of your inner song
