I got a brand new attitude
A new step in my feet
I moved into a little box
On the sunny side of the street
I got a job just down the road
For which I’m qualified
And all my dreams and ambitions
Have for now been set aside
There’s an old man in the alleyway
He’s a real true friend of mine
He sneaks us into galleries
Where they hand out bread and wine
He says he was a preacher
In a small town in the Styx
But now he washes windows
Just to get another fix
But things for me ain’t quite so bad as things they were before
I’m reading about the Buddha and brand new ways to score
It’s Junkie See and Junkie Do, I do not think I’ll quit
But trust me when I say that I have seen the worst of it
My new friend knows this doctor
In a walk-up by the park
He’s known around the forest
As the Great White Tiger Shark
He’ll sell you a prescription
For those crazy-sounding pills
Cuz he’s right square in the pocket
Of those old Big Pharma shills
I watched a man jump off a bridge
He landed in a twist
His body cracked the sidewalk
And the blood came up like mist
They say he was a barber
Who sold guns behind his shop
The mob came in and smashed his hands
So hair he couldn’t crop
But things for me ain’t quite so bad as things they were before
I’m reading about the Buddha and brand new ways to score
It’s Junkie See and Junkie Do, I do not think I’ll quit
But trust me when I say that I have seen the worst of it
One day, I might live in a house
With some children and a wife
And drive in cars and drink in bars
And ditch my switchblade knife
But for now I’m fine to hang around
With skids and runaways
And hustle punks and shoot up junk
And keep my P.M.A
Cuz things for me ain’t quite so bad as things they were before
I’m reading about the Buddha and brand new ways to score
It’s Junkie See and Junkie Do, I do not think I’ll quit
But trust me when I say that I have seen the worst of it
