[Aka polyphonic singing echoing in the forest]
[Insects, frogs, and birds singing]
[Monologue: Louis Sarno]
I love the Mongongo; this is a beautiful stream. This is the first place where I spent—where I lived in a forest camp with the Bayaka, it was at the Mongongo; right around here someplace
I had some great walks with the Bayaka in the forest; probably one of the best was when Ngoma's grandfather, [?], said, "I’m gonna show you my forest. You know, this is my forest, where I've road since I was a kid." And, you know, someone like [?] was the most incredible man—in many ways—that I've ever met. And he was just—he could live in the forest forever. He would never have to go out, you know? He’d spend long times in the forest. And we, you know, he was showing how he did it, 'cause we weren't around—we didn't have manioc with us. We had a little salt. That's the one thing that we brought from the village
Now, we just wandered through the forest, and we were eating like kings, you know? Bush pig with the natural (uh) garlic-flavored thing you get in the forest—fruit—called the [?]. I mean (uh), you know, and cocoa leaves and sometimes mushrooms [?]. Oh, and honey for dessert. I mean honeycomb, wild honeycomb. The most delicious, fragrant honey in the world, packed with pollen from different flowers, you know, oh man, it's like some kinda candy
Going slowly, ever deeper and deeper into the forest, you know? Over a period of months. Just moving farther out and farther out and farther out. It was great
