Song: Unsappy Love Poem

Someone asked me what it was
about him that drew us together
to spiral and combust entangled,
     and I said,

It was never about the way he smelled
or the curve of his arms,

It was that he hid
     cities in his words
anchored steam boats under his lips,
tied tree trunks and roots into his hair
and the lines of his palms.

It was that
underneath the thin layer of sweat
that shined across the skin stretched
     tight over collarbone,
lived a planet
on the muscle of his heart.
