Hi, it's Nina here, and I'm going to tell you a little bit about how "The Best You Had" became a song.
So it started off with this couplet that I had in my head for a few months, which was, "It's crazy that you're moving on so fast / But, baby, it's okay if I'm still the best you had."
And I knew that I really wanted to fit it into a song, but at this point, I'd written about three different versions of it and every single one of them was not good enough or not quite right.

And then, I had a session one evening with a guy called Jordan Riley, who has written and produced a lot of the album with me. And he got this nice kеy sound off and started playing these chords, and I was likе, "Hmm, I think this could be it.
This could be the moment that 'The Best You Had' was finally born."
And then the song just wrote itself in about 30 minutes. It literally just came about.
We wrote it out by SM7 and I literally just sang until it was written. And then it was there.
So yeah, it was probably the most enjoyable song to write on the album, because it required very little effort in the end.

And it all kind of stemmed from this conversation I was having with one of my friends, who'd essentially just been dumped by a guy she was seeing and had found out that he'd moved on to someone new.
And as the conversation went on, I kind of started to realize that she wasn't that upset about him, or that he'd moved on.
It was more of the fact that this new girl might be better than her, might be prettier, might be more intelligent, might be more successful, like all these things.
And I think it's something that we all do when we go through a breakup.
We kinda get confused between our ego and our feelings. And a lot of the time, I think it's people's pride that's the most hurt in this situation.

So yeah, that's what "The Best You Had" is about.
Slightly complicated, but I can definitely relate to it.
Yeah, so hope you like it.
Thanks for listening!
