Lady Richeldis of Walsingham Town
Prayed to Mary to shine her Crown
On Norfolk’s dark lanes that all might see
The light of Holy Galilee
A Vision of Mary she did espy
On wings of prayer her soul did fly
And there within the Holy Home
She saw young Mary all alone
Within that room the Light did flood
And there, from Heaven, Gabriel stood
He said, ‘Thou Daughter, will you bear
The Son of God - pray declare?’
So Mary thought & Mary frowned –
‘Emmanuel of High Renown!’
‘Oh yes, dear Gabriel,’ she did say
I’ll be God’s humble servant-maid
Come Pilgrims all & sing for aye
We travel on thе Walsingham Way
St Mary’s Dowry did bequest
Olde England’s Holy Nazarеth
Our Lady turned to Richeldis Fair
And said, ‘Now, Sister, you must bear
This Vision of my Nazarene Home
And take it to the Town of your own’
‘Build my Home in Walsingham fields
That all may come – their souls to heal
As they draw close unto my Shrine
God’s Light upon their face will shine
Come Pilgrims all & sing for aye
We travel on the Walsingham Way
St Mary’s Dowry did bequest
Olde England’s Holy Nazareth
Richeldis did as she was bid
The House of Nazareth did build
So, to this day from 'cross the land
They come in hundreds, and do stand
Before the image of Mary and Child –
The Strength of Heaven, & yet so mild
And many are healed & many are blessed
And many their wounded spirits caressed
Come Pilgrims all & sing for aye
We travel on the Walsingham Way
